Gateway Club Update The Gateway Award Scheme for children aged 8 - 13 years has had a successful start and a name change. The Club is now known as the 813 Club. The Club runs on Friday evenings at Harpenden House, Edwards Lane between 6pm and 8pm and there are still some places available. What makes it difficult when people with severe learning difficulties move into adult services? Jennifer Clegg, Elizabeth Murphy and Kathryn Almack from The University of Nottingham along with Nottingham Mencap conducted a research project to find out why. This project set out to study the process of transition to adult services for a group of young people with severe learning difficulties who were leaving school and entering adult services in 2004 and 2005. Transition Directory Nottingham Mencap are pleased to announce the arrival of the Transition Directory. This is a comprehensive guide for disabled young people , their parents and carers in Greater Nottingham. It will also prove a very useful tool to many professionals. This project was funded by Scope and together with Nottingham Mencap and The Children's Centre the directory was put together. The directory covers all aspects of the transition process including information on Employment and Training, Leisure, Health, Short Breaks, Transport and much more. Nottingham Mencap Carers'Group The Carers group meets at Harpenden House, Edwards Lane at 10am until 12pm. This informal group provides an opportunity to meet with other carers and share information. There are also guest speakers on occasions to talk about topics of interest to carers. The next dates for meetings are: January 29th 2009 March 26th May 14th July 16th September 24th November 26th and will be discussing carers assessment. All parents and carers are welcome. |

To apply for a card the person with a disability will need to meet one or more of the following criteria: 1) Be in receipt of the disability living allowance or attendance allowance 2) Be a registered blind person The card is valid for 3 years and there is a one-off processing fee of £5.50.
