| Nottingham MENCAP Senior Gettaway Club help people with a learning disability take part in leisure, social and creative activities in the community, and provide opportunities for personal development. The Senior Gettaway Club helps to give people with a learning disability the chance to speak up for themselves and have a say in the running of the club with the help of a member representatives. The clubs provide an opportunity for adults with a learning disability the chance to socially interact with friends in a warm friendly environment. The entertainment is chosen by the Gettaway leaders at the beginning of the year, to provide a variety of different games, and give the club nights a strong structure to run to. We offer twice weekly evening clubs, on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm. Each night we offer a variety of activities, games in the main hall, an arts and craft room, to the TV and Pool room. With a tea/ coffee break and tuckshop throughout the night. With the evenings ending with music and dancing. The Gettaway Club leaders also organise themed discos on Saturday Nights throughout the year, and hold two/three day outings during the year taking a 52 seater coach to various UK locations. The Senior Gettaway Club hold regular management committee meetings with member representatives, and volunteer meetings to ensure the smooth running of the club. The clubs are run by the Club Leader and Deputy Club Leader supported by volunteers, who encourage members to involve themselves in activities. Tuesday Nights 7pm-9pm Wednesday Nights 7pm-9pm Harpenden House, Edwards Lane, Nottingham Admission price is £1.50 per club session. New members must complete an application form. | Nottingham MENCAP SENIOR GETTAWAY CLUB The Senior Gettaway Club GALA Day was held on Saturday 5th July starting at 11am and finishing around 4pm Although the stalls had to be brought indoors, due to early morning rain, the event was a great success raising around £800 Stalls included the Mystery Prize Stall, Catch a duck, Raffle, tombola, Bric a Brac, Nearly New Stall, Book stall, BBQ and refreshment stall. We also had a demonstration by the Hong Du Karate club, which the members thoroughly enjoyed. www.shudokan.co.uk All funds raised go towards future club disco’s, day trips out and equipment for games played during club nights. As the club is run solely by volunteers we are always looking for new people to join our team – if anyone is interested then please don’t hesitate in contacting Judith Lincoln Nottingham MENCAP, Centre House, or call along to Harpenden House on our club nights. We would also like to Thank Joan George who is retiring as chairperson from the Senior Gettaway Club, but continuing on as a volunteer, for all her support and help in running the club over the past 30 years. It is with Joan’s guidance that the club has made it so far, and has a great structure to progress into in the future. |
