| Lifestyle Choices Lifestyle Choices offers first steps learning to a new concept, The aim is to offer adults aged 16 and over, with a learning disability, the opportunity to experience new activities and develop new skills for the future. The scheme is available to adults with learning disabilities who live within Greater Nottingham. Sessions run throughout the day at Harpenden House and offer the choice of morning, afternoon or full day participation. Drinks and lunch are provided free of charge, which are cooked on site by the trainee caterers. We have an extensive range of activities on offer which alters to suit demand. We have designed our initial range of choices in the hope that everyone will find something of interest. Whether individuals are looking for more varied recreational opportunities, learning a leisure skill or even taking a first step into vocational training. We currently offer the following activities: Arts and Crafts Drama Workshop Gardening Project Catering Computing & IT keyboard skills Car Valeting |
| Lifestyle Choices Gardening Project feature at Nottingham in Bloom Competition The Lifestyle Choices learners attending the Thursday Gardening Project whilst providing Harpenden House's community cafe project with organic fruit and vegetables have also decided to enter 'Nottingham in Bloom' competition. Judging took place on Thursday 20th July at Harpenden House by Nottingham City Council and Radio Trent presenters. | Meet and Mingle is a social group at Harpenden House that meets every Tuesday from 10am - 12pm Have a chat, socialise, meet your friends and make new ones, play games, table tennis, snooker, pool, play on the Wii. Lots to do. The cost is £5.00 For more details contact Amanda on 0115 920 9254 |

| East Midlands in Bloom Awards In the summer Harpenden House Gardening Group entered for an award with East Midlands in Bloom. In July Julie Walker and Richard Tomlinson came and looked at our garden. They were very impressed with our garden and our flowers, fruit and vegetables. In September the tutor Denise Hickman and volunteer Doreen Haskins went to the Council House to collect our award. We got an amazing award of Merit. |

| Harpenden House Gardening Group Harpenden House Gardening Group have been busy in their garden. Despite the cold winter, most plants survived. We have been planting pumpkins, potatoes, peas, beans, lettuce, onions, carrots, parsnips, chard, tomatoes, courgettes and callaloo. We are picking strawberries and raspberries, turnips and peas. We have now 2 big raised beds which are great for people with mobility problems. |

| The fruit and vegetables grown in the garden are used in the kitchen by the catering group who cook healthy meals for our lunches. |

| We have been doing a project on birds and had a visit to Attenborough Nature Reserve to see the birds there. We have also been in a trip to Stonebridge City Farm and Rushcliffe Mencap garden, it was lovely to see other community gardens. See photos below |
