Lifestyle Choices

Lifestyle Choices offers first steps learning to
a new concept, The aim is to offer adults
aged 16 and over, with a learning disability,
the opportunity to experience new activities
and develop new skills for the future.

The scheme is available to adults with
learning disabilities who live within Greater
Nottingham. There is no charge for attending.

Sessions run throughout the day at
Harpenden House and offer the choice of
morning, afternoon or full day participation.
Drinks and lunch are provided free of charge,
which are cooked on site by the trainee
caterers.

We have an extensive range of activities on
offer which alters to suit demand.

We have designed our initial range of
choices in the hope that everyone will find
something of interest. Whether individuals
are looking for more varied recreational
opportunities, learning a leisure skill or even
taking a first step into vocational training.

We currently offer the following activities:

Horticulture
Cooking Skills
Computing & IT keyboard skills
Digital photograohy
Workability skills
Car Valeting
Childhood studies

innovative and effective ways of providing
tasters in vocational skills training to people
aged 16-24 with learning disabilities by:

The Lifestyle Choices learners
attending the Thursday
Gardening Project whilst
providing Harpenden House's
community cafe project with
organic fruit and vegetables
have also decided to enter
'Nottingham in Bloom'
competition.

Judging took place on Thursday
20th July at Harpenden House by
Nottingham City Council and
Radio Trent presenters.

Students' Forum - have your say

The 'Fighting back' Group meet on the
3rd Thursday in the Month from
10.30 am to 12 noon at
Centre House.

Sessions run by Denise Hickman
Lifestyle Choices takes place at
Harpenden House five days a week and is
funded by the Nottinghamshire Learning
and Skills Council and co-financed by the
European Social Fund (ESF).

  • developing and implementing
    individual vocational taster
    programmes with support structures
    providing quality, advice, guidance
    and related support that enables
    individuals to make informed choices
    which overcome barriers to learning
    and social exclusion both in-house
    and outreach within the project to
    support the beneficiaries.
  • assist in the development of personal
    and practical work skills which can be
    used to facilitate social and vocational
    effectiveness.
  • delivering an ICT provision based on e-
    learning workability and travel training

    response to newly evolving needs,
    leading to increasing confidence,
